The
Conway Image Archive contains over 5,100 images from every period of
Conway life and they will all be on display in the Pearce Room in the
Adelphi from immediately after the AGM on Saturday morning until 5pm on
Sunday.
Every
phase of Conway’s existence is represented so you can take a
photographic tour from 1859 through to 1974 - whatever your years, they
will be covered. This is once in lifetime exhibition so please make
time to visit and see if you can find yourself and your chums in the QB
group photos (97 of them), the Band (55), Athletics (138), Boxing (8),
Cadet Captains (90), Cricket teams (21), Cross Country team (1!),
Cutter & Gig Crews (107), Gymnastics (13), Hockey teams (4), Judo
team (1!), Rugby (140), Sailing (87), Sextant Classes (5), Tennis (4)
and photos of cadets here, there and everywhere beyond counting.
The exhibition includes:
- The Loss of the Ship: incredibly, over 200 photos with charts follow the Ship’s last voyage on 14th April 1953.
- The Conway Art Gallery: photos of over 140 paintings, drawings, cartoons and models.
- Badges & Crests tracing the various devices used over the years.
- Very detailed deck plans of the Ship produced in 1953 are illustrated by photos from key vantage points.
- Relics & Artifacts showing various items in their current settings.
- Then & Now photos comparing a few modern views of old Conway photos and artifacts.
- Members of Staff and the Management Committee (100 photos).
Artifacts
There is a special display of mementoes and artifacts so bring yours
along. The display will include uniforms, QB Books, Chum Books, oars,
cutlery, bits from the ship........
The Conway Silver from the RN Museum Plymouth will be on display prior to it moving to the Conway Chapel at Birkenhead.
