From 1889 to 1973 The Cadet
listed the names of each term’s new chums and where they had joined from
although between 1900 and 1949 lists were not always published. I have compiled
the following analysis of where we all joined from:
Antigua 1
Argentina 2
Australia 6
Austria 1
Barbados 3
Belgium 2
Bermuda 13
Brazil 1
British Guiana 1
Burma 1
Canada 8
Chile 2
China 1
Cyprus 3
Egypt 2
Germany 4
Guernsey 2
Hong Kong 11
India 11
Isle of Man 7
Jamaica 1
Japan 1
Jersey 9
Kenya 69
Kuwait 1
Liberia 1
Libya 1
Malaya 7
Mallorca 1
Malta 2
New Zealand 3
Nigeria 1
Norway 1
Nyasaland 2
Pakistan 5
Persian Gulf 1
Peru 1
Rhodesia 16
Singapore 4
South Africa 7
Spain 1
Sudan 1
Sweden 1
Tanganyika 5
Tasmania 1
Trinidad & Tobago 3
Uganda 11
USA 2
Zambia 5
While the list is interesting it
is not an absolute indication of “nationality” e.g. I joined from Kenya but was
British and some boys joining from the UK had parents who lived abroad.
