The Cadets

Approximately 11,500 boys trained in HMS Conway from 1859 to 1974. They are all listed in The Cadets List below with information about their lives where known. Some had notable careers and a few of the most outstanding are listed below.

Cadets usually served for two or three years, i.e. 24 or 36 months (six or nine terms), but some stayed longer. The longest serving cadets were:
-    Lt Patrick Stratton Campbell (Apr 07 - Jul 11) a cadet for 52 months, 13 terms.
-    Brian Friend (Jan 54 - Dec 57) RN a cadet for 48 months, 12 terms.

On completing their training boys normally left and went to sea but Cadet Brisbane Stephenson "Brizz" Dale (53-56) was unique. He stayed on and became a Supernumerary Officer in the technical staff for at least a year.
