From 1979 to 1996 the CMNT granted funds to various
training organisations such as Sea Cadets Marine Society, Sail Training and
the National Sea School Gravesend.
1996 the then Chairman Andrew Tyrrell (OC 42-43)
tasked trustees John Weight (Chamber of Shipping) and Don Houghton (OC
55-56) to set up sponsorship of the Trust's own Cadets. The first CMNT Conway Cadets started training that year.
In 2017 the Trust signed a degree course partnership
agreement with Trinity House to continue sponsoring both Deck & Engine
